The plot for Season 2 of House of Cards seems pretty outrageous at times, but leading cast member Kevin Spacey defends the show, saying that it's closer to reality than most suspect. Barack Obama gives his Presidential endorsement of the series with "No Spoilers" Twitter update.
Most people who watch the Netflix hit series feel that some of the political machinations undertaken by Congressman Frank Underwood are little outside the actual realm of Realpolitik, but the actor who plays the part, Kevin Spacey, isn't so quick to agree.
Spacey told George Stephanopoulos on ABC's This Week that he has been told by those in the know that the plot is closer to the truth of what's really happening on "The Beltway":
"Our storylines are not that crazy. They're really not.
"Some people feel that 99 percent of the show is accurate, and that the 1 percent that isn't is that you could never get an education bill passed that fast.
"Republican House Majority Whip McCarthy said, 'If I could kill just one member of congress I wouldn't have to worry about another vote.'"
Though Spacey did admit that if the show did err on the side of truth anywhere, it was its portrayal of a workable Congress (via Washington Post):
"It must be really interesting for, not just an American public, but for people around the world to view a very effective congress. That gets things done. So I imagine [President Obama] must feel 'Gosh I wish we could move that quickly.'"
President Obama definitely does find it pretty interesting and he doesn't want it ruined for him by any overzealous fans/constituents.
The President posted via his Twitter just before the show was released that he didn't want to talk about until he got a chance to watch it:
"Tomorrow: @HouseOfCards. No spoilers, please."
And if you leak the ending, they through you in the cell with Chelsea Manning.
