A jazz concert entitled "Jazz for Obama," has been announced for Tuesday Oct.9 at the Symphony Space in Manhattan, New York at 7:30 p.m. The concert is a campaign fund raiser for President Barack Obama who is running against Republican candidate Sen. Mitt Romney.
According to the L.A. Times the projected lineup for the night will include the likes of singers Dee Dee Bridgewater and Gretchen Parlato, bassists Christian McBride and Ron Carter, drummer Roy Haynes, guitarist Jim Hall and saxophonist Joe Lovano.
Tickets for the event will be $100 for general admission with seniors offered a discounted price of $50. All proceeds will go to the Obama-Biden presidential campaign.
This will be the second addition of "Jazz for Obama," the first installment of the event came in 2008 when President Obama was running for office. Notable performers on the night were jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and bassist Charlie Haden.
President Barack Obama is a noted jazz fan having allowed acts like Esperanza Spalding and Irvin Mayfield to play at events at the White House. The latter was appointed to the National Endowment of the Arts by President Obama.
President Obama's opponent Mitt Romney has also been endorsed by musicians this presidential campaign with the Republican leader's deputy Paul Ryan teaming up with rock and roll artist Kid Rock with the two showing up at a rally in Detroit on Oct.8 to help promote Romney's candidacy for president this upcoming election.
A number of musicians that support President Obama have asked the Romney camp not to play any of their songs at any his events as a show of support for the current leader.
