‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Shawn Ashmore and ‘First Class’ Kevin Bacon Back In All New Episode of ‘The Following’

Tonight is a big night for TV. Over at NBC, The Blacklist and The Voice are making their returns, but they are not alone. Over on the other side of the dial, Fox is all new with the killer crime thriller, The Following staring X-Men: Days of Future Past star Shawn Ashmore and Kevin Bacon, who has been in everything, including a X-Men movie of his own. Check our special preview of tonight's new episode.

The Following is all new tonight. The hit Fox crime thriller returns after a brief break with an all new episode titled, “Fly Away.”

The official plot synopsis for tonight’s episode reads:

“Ryan and Max contact the FBI for backup, leading to a standoff. Elsewhere, Joe finds himself in uncharted territory in his new relationship, and Luke ends up in a difficult situation.”

The show is starting to slip in the ratings after a super impressive return showing. However, the series creator is not worried. Kevin Williamson recently opened up about the series upping the violence at the recent Winter TV Tour:

“I don’t shy away from violence. But I also never, ever just want to be gore for the sake of gore. It’s always to shock and push the story forward and make you gasp, and also make you truly be afraid and truly be scared of these characters and the situation. And so it really is just what the situation, what the story line, calls for. I don’t really see that it’s gory. I guess it’s subjective. I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer. But I like a little violence, sorry.”

The show’s star, Shawn Ashmore, recently spoke at the Brooklyn Sound Stage about the evolution of his character, Mike:

“Things basically drive Mike to the brink. You can’t imagine worse things happening to anybody...Mike was put through the meat grinder really, emotionally, physically, psychologically, through the first season and continuing into the second. so it’s fun for me to explore and go down the rabbit hole emotionally with Mike.”
