Tony Host Neil Patrick Harris Cast in Broadway’s ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ After ‘HIMYM’ Series Finale, Plus ‘Dr Horrible 2’ Update

Neil Patrick Harris has already found his next gig, now that his hit CBS show, How I Met Your Mother is ending. The Tony host is moving on with his career, by taking six inches forward and five inches back. That is right, Dr Horrible, himself, will be playing the lead role in the Broadway premiere of John Cameron Mitchell’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Forget about how that one guy met your mother, this spring we get to see Neil Patrick Harris meet his "Sugar Daddy.” The four time Tony host is going after his first Tony win on Broadway’s debut of the hit Off Broadway cult classic, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The NY Times recently followed Harris around as he previewed the show.

Lets face it, Neil Patrick Harris is one of the most likable and talented actors alive. However, it is the most likeable part that has Harris not sure if he can fill John Cameron Mitchell’s shoes. As Harris recently told the NYTimes:

“John would say very nasty things, but he did it in a way that was incredibly enjoyable. I don’t know how to do that yet.”

Director Michael Mayer has complete faith in Harris, after seeing the actor preview a few tunes:

“The Rockwood set went really well, and there was one thing that was unexpected,Neil was supposed to rip off his shirt during the ‘Angry Inch’ number, but instead he did it earlier, during ‘Sugar Daddy,’ a song about sexual power. He was experiencing a pure sexual power that he had over the audience. It was undeniable. He could have had anyone he wanted in that moment.”

Meanwhile, fans are still holding out hope to see NPH reprise his role as Dr. Horrible in an upcoming sequel to the popular web-musical.

The music for the show is complete, but there is only one little problem. The Avengers. Harris’s co-star, Nathan Fillion recently told IGN about how the superhero team put the villain on ice:

"We had designs on doing it sometime this summer, but Avengers 2 popped up. The upside is that everyone involved with that project still wants to do another one. No-one is getting impatient about it. I think we all have faith that we're going to do another one.“
