The St. Petersberg Philharmonic, under conductor Yuri Temirkanov, will be the subject of an LGBTQA protest in San Francisco. A March 3 performance by the orchestra will be picketed by members of Gays Without Borders--ostensibly, for the conductor's affiliation with Vladimir Putin.
Michael Petrelis, organizer of the picket, cites that conductor Temirkanov was one of "Putin's 500 Trustees," a group of prominent Russians who endorsed his 2012 re-election bid.
Termikanov was honored at a 75th birthday concert gala by Putin on December 14, 2013 in St. Petersburg.
The March 3 protest may mark the first post-Sochi action in support of LGBTQA Russians here in America. And like the feminist punk band Pussy Riot, maybe Gays Without Borders can get on Colbert to advocate their kind of social justice.
Pussy Riot, also, released a new anti-Putin music video exhaustively entitled "Putin, We Will Teach You How to Love the Motherland."
The San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center, as well, rejected a request from Gays Without Borders to fly a rainbow flag on the hall's flagpole.
If you're interested in joining the frontlines, GWB will be picketing Davies Symphony Hall on Monday, March 3 at 7 p.m.
As mentioned, here is Pussy Riot's latest middle finger to Putin.
