Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli headlines the Classical Brit Awards as he takes home the International artist of the year award on Tuesday Oct.2 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Andrea Bocelli who is due to perform at the newly erected Barclays Center in New York received the award due to his record sales over the years. The Tuscan sold 75 million records worldwide becoming the biggest selling solo artist in classical music.
After his award Bocelli jokingly said. "It is a big honor for me because I really like your music and I dream one day to sing a song, who knows, written for me."
Other winners include Dutch violinist Andre Rieu who won the "Album of the Year," award with his work entitled "And the Waltz Goes On."
When accepting his award the artist wanting to accredit "the waltz," for what he has been able to achieve.
"I am extremely honored to have this fantastic award tonight...but I think this award is not me but for the whole world. They stand up spontaneously, dance, sing and smile," said Rieu
Other award winners on the night were Nicola Benedetti for "Female Artist of the Year." "Breakthrough Artist of the Year," went to classical guitarist Milos Karadaglic. John Williams picked up two awards on the night firstly the "Composer of the Year," award then "Lifetime Achievement Award."
The "Critics' Award," went to Benjamin Grosvenor and the Classic Brits single of the year was claimed by "Military Wives/Gareth Malone with "Wherever You Are."
Performances on the night were done by Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra as well as Milos Karadaglic with a rendition of "Libertango," while the Military Wives also performed singing their award winning hit.
