Carnegie Hall To Welcome the Met Orchestra

Two of the biggest classical music institutions combine for one night. The Metropolitan Orchestra which is attached with the Metropolitan Opera House will bring its talents to Manhattan's Carnegie Hall Oct. 14 with Russian conductor Semyon Bychkov at the helm with Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek taking the lead at his side.

Bychkov will be guiding performances by the ensemble through firstly Wagner's "Overture to Tannhauser" and "Wesendonck Lieder," (orch. Mottl/Wagner), closing the act with Richard Strauss' "Eine Alpensinfonie."

Bychkov is heavily involved in the Met's rotation this year as he will be conducting "Otello," an Elijah Moshinsky production, the Russian has already made a stop at the Juilliard School where he has conducted the resident orchestra there.

Bychkov specializes in the works of Wagner, Richard Strauss, Verdi, Rachimaninov and Shostakovich. He is also linked with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Koln, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

The veteran conductor will be joined by Dutchman Eva-Maria Westbroek who herself has had a full career.

Westbroek studied in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague for little less than a decade from 1988 to 1995. She has played in various operas such as Verdi's "Otello," where she played as "Desdemona."

Linking her to Wagner, Westbroek made her Metropolitan debut in the composer's "Die Walkure," in 2011 directed by Richard Lapage.

Viewers can see Semyon Bychakov at the Metropolitan Opera House in "Otello," from Oct. 9 to Oct. 27 in the Moshinsky production. While the soprano Westbroek can be seen performing at the Royal Opera House in London in Wagner's "Die Walkure," well into October.
