Legendary Star Trek actor Sir Patrick Stewart was recently outed by The Guardian for being gay. However, the publication missed one little detail...Stewart is not gay. True Sir Stewart and his X-Men: Days of Future Past co-star, Sir Ian Mckellen, are super best friends, and yes Mckellen did marry Stewart..technically, but McKellen’s sexual orientation is not contagious. Patrick Stewart pointed this out in a super hilarious and epic tweet.
Recently The Guardian confused Sir Patrick Stewart for gay, after he defended Ellen Page’s coming out.
Here is the retraction that The Guardian posted about the confusion:
“This article was amended on 17 February 2014. The third paragraph originally said 'Some gay people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page's coming out speech is newsworthy'. This should have read 'Some people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page's coming out speech is newsworthy'.”
However, Patrick Stewart set the record “Straight” when he tweeted a string of responses at the accidental outing:
“MT ‘@Gruaig_Rua: @Poynter Silly @guardian. You can't catch gay by hanging out with #LGBT people."
“.@Poynter But @guardian I have, like, five or even SEVEN hetero friends and we totally drink beer and eat lots of chicken wings!”
And perhaps the greatest response of all:
“Well, @guardian it makes for a nice change...at least I didn't wake up to the internet telling me I was dead again.”
It is also worth noting that the openly gay Ian Mckellen did marry his X-Men: Days of Future Past co-star. However, it is not how it sounds. Sir Mckellen officiated the recent wedding between Stewart and his new wife, Sunny Ozell.
Mckellen spoke about the ceremony on The Jonathan Ross Show back in March of 2013, where he made the obvious joke:
"I am going to marry Patrick. Well, no, how else do you put that? I am going to officiate at his wedding."
