Fresh off a 2013 respite, Poland's own Unsound Festival hits the steel forest in early April this year.
No word yet, though, on if you can snap a pic here in Gotham.
Unsound started with Australian writer Mat Schulz when he settled in Krakow 15 years ago, where he began to collect scratchy and unauthorized copies of pop music called "sound postcards." They then were snuck to listeners around the nation.
On the back of this invention, Schulz got the idea to begin a festival for avant-garde musicians--ones that were able to tour the globe, anyways. Pretty soon, new music was cemented in a Polish city other than Warsaw.
Returning to NYC here for 2014, Unsound (U.S.) provides audiences with a 10-day series of concerts, film screenings, panel discussions and exhibitions in spaces throughout the city.
As Schulz says, "The kind of concert where there's one person sitting with a laptop, even if the music sounds great, it's not necessarily a great experience."
"Partly because I felt frustrated with only having that kind of music," he says further, "we broadened the range and started to think about this idea of 'advanced music,' which is a kind of approach to making music rather than strict definitions."
In fact, this upcoming iteration of the festival looks to be so advanced, the lineup's yet to be confirmed via Unsound's official website.
Don't fret; we've got the bootleg. Here's your program (thus far, at least) for the 2014 Unsound Festival...coming back to New York April 2-6.
