A native of Japan Midori Goto played alongside the New York Philharmonic under the conductor Zubin Mehta at the age of 11. Midori was taught to play the violin by her mother who initially tried to get her to play the piano but the young Midori opted for the stringed instrument after her grandmother got her one for her birthday.
In 1982 she moved from Osaka, Japan with her mother to New York City where she studied the violin under Dorothy De Lay at Juilliard Pre- College. She auditioned at the institute with one of Bach's more difficult works "Chaconnee,' a 13 minute piece
As an adult she worked with Zubin Mehta again in a number of concertos, she also formed philanthropic group named "Midori and Friends," in an effort to reach New York City children by exposing them to music because of her talent and philanthropic work she was selected as a "United Nations Messenger of Peace," in 2007.
The violinist is currently on tour both domestically and abroad.
