The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have announced that hip hop groups N.W.A and Public Enemy are up for nomination for induction into the class of 2013 with fans casting votes to see which rap group enters the prestigious institution. The ceremony will be held on April 18 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
The only other hip hop artist to be inducted so far are Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys.
The super group N.W.A comprises of rapper and actor Ice Cube, producer Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella and rapper the late Eric Lynn Wright better known as "Eazy-E." N.W.A was formed in Compton, California 1986 and is ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine at number 83 on their list of "100 Greatest Artist of All Time."
Musically the controversial group produced studio two albums, "Straight Outta Compton," their first album went double Platinum and sold over three million units. The album featured hits such as self-titled "Straight Outta Compton" and "F**k tha Police."
The group itself had disbanded by 1995 with members like Ice Cube and Dr Dre leaving to in fighting.
Public Enemy consisted of rapper and reality TV star Flavor Flav, rappers, Chuck D and Professor Griff and disc jockeys DJ Lord and Terminator X. The group formed in 1982 in Long Island, New York and is still active to this day.
Some of their more famous work include their 1990 album "Fear of a Black Planet," that won numerous accolades and has appeared on "The Source's "100 Best Rap Albums," in 1998."Fight the Power," of the album appeared as number on the American Billboard charts.
Fans will have until Dec.3 to making their decision.
