Espernaza Spalding is set to become a television host on Magic Johnson's newly formed network Aspire. The weekly show called "Groundbreaking," will premier Friday at 8 p.m.
The Grammy award winning bassist and vocalist is known for her powerful live performances and will join an all-star cast at Johnson's new network that include Hollywood's Laurence Fishburne and comedian Jonathan Slocumb, both of whom have agreed to sign on to Johnson's project.
The first show of "Groundbreaking, will showcase "Earth, Wind and Fire," with performances from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Dorothy Dandridge in the offing.
Traces of Spalding's talent can be found at various moments of her young career. The bassist performance grabbed great headlines from audiences and the tabloids.
Spalding who was inspired by cellist Yo Yo Ma as a child is also a Grammy Award winner in 2011 in the category for "Best New Artist." The jazz musician also picked up a Boston Music Award in the same year for "Jazz Artist of the Year."
Her solo albums include "Junjo," in April 2006. The self-titled "Esperanza," in 2008, followed by Chamber Music Society in 2010, her latest solo album "Radio Music Society," topped the jazz charts, with the latter peaking at No.1 in the United States.
Her first and second collaborative albums came in 2001 to 2002 and were both entitled "Blanket Music," with fellow artist Noise for Pretent." "Transfiguration of Vincent," was covered along with Matthew Ward in 2003. "Duende," premiered in 2006. The multi talented performer came out with three more albums in between 2007 and 2010, "Reencontro," with Nando Michelin the last of her collaborative works.
