Forget about the chocolates, flowers or over-sized teddy bears. The Mega Millions jackpot for the Valentines Day drawing has skyrocketed, making a lotto ticket the perfect gift for your sweetheart.
The new Mega Millions total for this Friday’s drawing has reached a jaw dropping $139 million, with an estimated cash value of $76 million.
The Mega Millions website helps explain the games by writing:
“Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game with MEGA jackpots and MEGA fun. You can play Mega Millions in 43 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands; a total of 45 jurisdictions. See the Where To Play page for details. With millions of people playing, jackpots can roll to even higher levels at a faster rate. Jackpots start at $15 million. You choose six numbers and there are nine exciting ways to win in the game.
Each play costs just $1.00.”
The site also adds:
“Mega Millions tickets cost $1.00 per play.Players may pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers - five different numbers from 1 to 75 and one number from 1 to 15 - or select Easy Pick. You win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing. The jackpots start at $15 million and grow by a minimum of $5 million per draw each time the jackpot rolls.
What if you win the jackpot?
Annuity option: The Mega Millions annuity is paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments. Each payment is 5% bigger than the previous one. We used to pay the jackpot in equal installments, but players expressed concern that the cost of living would be increasing while their payments were not. We changed to payments that increase each year to help protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power.”
Be sure to check back in with us on Friday in between episodes of House of Cards in order to check out the winning numbers.
