Good news for Matt Lauer, who is not above ousting someone from their job. He will be taking over for Bob Costas until the legendary broadcaster recovers from pink eye. Lauer is happy no doubt to have another distraction from the upcoming movie backlash, that’s poised to make Matt look like that bad guy is Ann Curry’s firing from the Today morning show.
Bob Costas is happy to be letting Mat Lauer fill in for him, while he is forced to take a break from his nightly coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympic games, until he stops bleeding.
Costas jokingly remarked to Lauer on Today that he wouldn't have the coveted spot for long, because Bob wants back in the batter's box, just as soon as possible (via Hollywood Reporter):
"I was trying to throw a complete game...You're Mariano Rivera, at least for one night... Let's hope it's only tonight. I'm walking around, I might as well be playing 'Marco Polo.' I have no idea where I am."
Truth be told, Lauer is reportedly looking for anything to take his mind off of the upcoming film adaptation of Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV.
Rumor has it that Matt is driving everyone crazy back home with his constant worrying.
An inside source on the show told In Touch that Matt has been freaking out how the film will make him look:
"Matt is so nervous and has been asking everyone if they've seen the script yet. The book depicts everything that happened back then, and Matt is worried that he's going to be painted as the villain."
Lauer told Esquire that he just knew the media would eat him alive, just like they did last time:
"The way the media treated what happened with Ann Curry was a disappointing learning experience. I was disappointed by the laziness of the media, the willingness to read a rumor, repeat that rumor, and treat it as a fact."
But is the movie is made up of lies, why doesn't he just sue libel, in order to stop the film from being made.
Apparently the questionable facts in the film aren't quite as ridiculous as Lauer would like to pretend.
