Twyla Tharp Premieres 'Cornbread Duet' with Carolina Chocolate Drops at BAM for Nonesuch Records' 50th Anniversary

Folk outfit Carolina Chocolate Drops have been so lauded for their interpretations of old-time string band music--fiddle, banjo, acoustic guitar, oh my!--the Brooklyn Academy of Music is now inviting them to back up Twyla Tharp.

A most deserving Grammy-winning group, the group will delve into tunes from their two Nonesuch releases: Genuine Negro Jig (2010) and Leaving Eden ('12).

The concert will also feature the world premiere of "Cornbread Duet," a new dance work choreographed by Twyla Tharp set to the Drops' music, featuring New York City Ballet dancers Tiler Peck and Robert Farichild.

The event is part of BAM's ongoing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Nonesuch record label.

Music and movement happens on Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m. at the Peter Jay Sharp Building in the Howard Gilman Opera House.
