When it comes to the 50 Shades of Grey Movie, rumors are always flying. Charlie Hunnam may not have been inspired by the character of Christian Grey in EL James popular novel, seeing as how the actor dropped out of the role just weeks before filming was set to commence. Turns out Charlie may not be the only one, as the alleged inspiration for Christian, himself, took time to bash the book.
New York Daily News claims they know who that person is. According to the paper, he's a steamy (and very rich) Italian:
"Christian Grey--the mysterious lead character in 50 Shades of Grey--was based on a smolderingly hot Italian real estate agent...Alessandro Proto, 39, is believed to have been British author E.L. James' main inspiration when she came to pen the mega-successful steamy S&M trilogy."
Despite believing that the novel was written about his life, Proto has no desire to read the novel. He tried once, however, he just can't possibly get through it:
"I started reading it because I was curious to know what the press was writing about me, but I quit after a few pages. It's really not my thing. I think it was a well-planned marketing operation though. Huge one. But that's it."
Another person who doesn't seem won over by the series is Charlie Hunnam. While he was originally cast as the lead role, he backed out at the last minute. While many felt it was negative fan backlash, the studio claimed that it was simply a scheduling conflict:
"The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
