Broadway Shows NYC Annie to premier in 2012

The musical "Annie," is set for a return to Broadway on Nov.8 at the Palace Theatre in Manhattan. Tony award winning director James Lapine will bring a revamped version of the 1977 Broadway musical.

Lapine has asked young actress Lilla Crawford to play the part as "Annie," while the role of Annie's minder will be given to Katie Finneran, who is a two time Tony Award winner.

Finneran said "I was obsessed with the original cast album," according to Playbill.com. Joining her in the main cast will be Anthony Warlow a veteran of the genre, he is set to play "Oliver 'Daddy' Warbucks," the wealthy businessman who in the original adopted orphan Annie.

His assistant will be played by actress Brynn O'Malley as the "Grace Farrell." Other roles include "Rooster Hannigan," played by Clarke Thorell and J.Elaine Marcos will feature alongside him as his girlfriend "Lily St. Regis."

Annie features a number of songs performed by the orphans so handed the role of "July," is Madi Rae DiPietro, "Pepper," will be played by Georgi James. With the roles of "Tessie, Kate, Duffy and Molly" to be played by Junah Jang, Tyrah Skye Odoms, Taylor Richardson and Emily Rosenfeld respectfully. While Jaidyn Young is on standby to play numerous roles if needed.

This new "Annie," will feature the original songs from the 1977 version. Songs such as "Hard Knock Life,"a song redone by artist over the years such as Jay-Z "Maybe" and "Tomorrow," choreographing such numbers will be Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler.

Blankenbuehler, known for the award winning "In the Heights, Bring It On: The Musical" said.

"I grew up doing shows like Annie. As a performer, I always did traditional musical theatre...So this has been great going back to my roots."

The musical will be orchestrated by music director Michael Starobin and will feature a multiple Tony award winning backstage crew.
