NHL Lockout:Boston Bruins Zdeno Chara moves to KHL

Zdeno Chara star player for the Boston Bruins continues the recent trend of National Hockey League (NHL) players moving to Europe as the league remains in a lock out.

Chara the Bruins star defenseman will be moving to Prague in the Czech Republic to play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), where he will be playing for the Prague Lions until the NHL opens up for the new season.

Similar to the National Basketball Association's (NBA) lock out in 2011 that saw the likes of Deron Williams of the newly rebranded Brooklyn Nets and San Anotnio Spurs' Tony Parker move east to China and France respectfully in order to keep themselves match fit.

Chara, a Slovak will be close to his home when he moves to Prague in this NHL off season.

Matt Keator Chara's agent had this to say when speaking to USA TODAY. "He has friends there, and it's within hours of his home in Slovakia and it's a great hockey city."

Chara a Stanley Cup winner with the Boston Bruins in 2011 will join fellow Bruin Patrice Bergenon in Europe.

The Canadian will suit up for HC Lugano in the "National League A" (NLA), while Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will return to Russia to play for HC Dynamo Moscow.

Chara could play his first game for his new club Prague Lions alongside likes of former Philadelphia Flyer Jakub Voracek and Calgary Flame winger Jiri Hudler come Oct. 8 against SKA St. Petersburg.
