Giacomo Puccini's "Turnadot," premieres tomorrow at the Metropolitan Opera House Wednesday Oct.9 and will run through to Jan. 10.
The Giacomo Puccini play will be recreated by producer Franco Zeffirelli who will also be designing the set, trying to recreate the ancient Chinese setting.
Zeffirelli 's costumes will be done Dada Saligeri and Anna Anni while the lighting will be done by Gil Wechsler and dance routines choreographed by Chiang Ching.
"Turnadot," will be conducted by Dan Ettinger with producer Franco Zeffirelli choosing to cast two sets of actors for the play.
Maria Guleghina and Irene Theorin will play as "Turnadot," the star of the opera. "Liu," will be played by soprano Hibla Germava and Janai Brugger. Tenor Marco Berti will play "Calaf," along with Marcello Giordani and Walter Fraccaro while the role of "Timur," will be played by James Morris and Samuel Ramey.
Turnadot at the Met will be three acts long and will be approximately three hours long.
Turnadot for those unfamiliar is an opera based on an old Chinese story.Prince Calaf falls in love with Turnadot and wants to marry her but in order to do so he has to answer three riddles, answer them incorrectly and the prince dies.
He manages to pass his tests but Turnadot does not want to accept his hand. So he offers to die only if Turnadot herself could figure out what his real name is.
