NBC is putting a lot of eggs in one basket that many people are planning to boycott. The network kicks off the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi tomorrow night. However, the network has halted most new programming this week to prepare for the games. Not only did they forgo a new episode of the hit seriesThe Blacklist, for a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit special, but they have also sent their Thursday night lineup to an early hiatus. Sadly, that means there are new episodes for Park and Rec and Community for the next three weeks. However, the shows will return at the end of the month, with Community kicking things off with a bondage episode.
Where the opening ceremonies won't air until tomorrow night, two events from the 2014 Winter Olympics take place tonight on NBC. Sadly, that means we will have to miss out on the hit comedies, Parks and Rec and Community.
Last week we said goodbye to Parks and Rec stars Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones. Now it seems we won’t be seeing the rest of the gang for sometime. P & R is on hiatus while the 2014 Olympic Games air.
The cult college comedy Community also lost a cast member a few weeks ago. Donald Glover made what we hope will be a temporary departure from the series to pursue other ventures (please be the new Flash). Class has also been canceled for the rest of the cast until after the Olympics.
Ah the Winter Olympics. They sure have a way of ruining good TV. They come along just as a show is returning from Christmas break, like a mini writers strike, stalling the moment for a ton of TV shows.
Perhaps someone should just make a TV channel devoted solely to sports, that way we wouldn’t have to interrupt our regular programing. (Oh Wait) Good Move NBC, because nothing says thanks for your loyalty like an extended break to watch people play in the snow.
