‘The Flash’ Series Casting Update: Black Wally West and ‘Gotham’ Villains [SPOILERS]

When it comes to combining TV and comic books, no one does it better than DC. Not only has the company been putting out amazing animated series, like Batman: TAS, Justice League: United and Young Justice for over 20 years, but they have secured a strong foothold on live action shows as well. Now Warner Brothers is expanding on the DC universe with a string of all new shows. The Arrow spin-off The Flash has reportedly been cast, including the possibility of a black Wally West. Meanwhile, the Batman prequel Gotham is planning on exploring some of the city’s baddest villains.

The Flash is coming along fast. The spin-off series has reportedly already found a cast. In addition to Glee’s Grant Gustin, who we met already on Arrow playing The Flash/Barry Allen, it has been revealed that Law and Order’s Jessie L. Martin has been cast as Detective West.

Detective West is Barry’s mentor and the father of his love interest Iris West. Iris will be played by Candice Patton.

Comic fans will remember that Iris’ nephew Wally West became the third Flash (Barry Allen is technically the second). That means that we may soon see an African American Flash.

One of the many dream casting rumors circulating around the internet is Community star Donald Glover as Wally West. Also given the way that Arrow introduced Ollie’s sidekick, Roy Harper, in the first season, we might not have to wait long to find out who will play Wally.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Fox Batman prequel series Gotham is planning on digging deep into the city’s underworld. Fox’s chairman Kevin Reillyrecently spoke about the new show at Fox’s Television Critics Association panel, telling the press:

"This is all of the classic Batman characters. It follows the arc of how they all became what they were. I've read the script its really good. It's going to be this operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality."
