With the Barclays Center being rocked by hip hop mogul Jay-Z on Friday, September 28, fans of an older genre, classical music mainly the ones in New York must be anxious to have their season in full bloom.Venues like Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Center wait eagerly for classical acts to come their way.
Andrea Bocelli the Italian tenor will be at the very same Barclays Center in Brooklyn come December 5 but if that winter date is too long of a wait to hear powerful voices sung in Italian there are a few closer acts for listeners to wrap their ears around.
The Metropolitan Opera House 2012-2013 season is well under way. Operas like Gaetano Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore," have already gotten rave reviews. The Huffington Post saying the redone Donizetti opera by Bartlett Sher is delighting and enchanting. Georges Bizet's "Carmen," presented by British director Richard Eyre made its debut September 28, now it's the turn of two Italian classics to come to life.
September 29 will see Giacomo Puccini's "Turnadot," go tonight at 8pm right on the heels of Il "Trovatore," by Giuseppe Verdi with. Verdi's master class going first with an early premier at 12:30 pm on the same day. "Il Trovatore," will be a David McVicar production and will be conducted by Daniele Callegari. Franco Zeffirelli will be in charge of recreating "Turnadot," with the musical assistance of conductor Dan Ettinger.
Both productions will feature heavily on the Met calendar this season with the final dates for "Il Trovatore," scheduled for January 9, 2013. While "Turnadot's," tenure at the New York venue comes to an end a day behind of Puccini's piece on January 10.
