Saturday Night Live is all new tonight, with a Super Bowl weekend episode. Tonight's show will be hosted by the hilarious and talented Melissa McCarthy, from Bridesmaids and CBS’ Mike and Molly. Be sure to check out the new episode tonight and the show's new black female cast member, Sasheer Zamata.
It may have taken them 6 long years, but Saturday Night Live finally has a new black female cast member. Gone are the days of Kenan Thompson in drag. Sasheer Zamata debuted earlier this year, during the first show in the 2014 season.
Zamata is not alone. The talented actress is also accompanied by two new writers, Leslie Jones and Lakendra Tookes. Good thing, because having a bunch of white men trying to write in a black female voice could go bad real fast.
You can catch Zamata tonight on an all new episode with host Melissa McCarthy.
This will be Melissa McCarthy’s third time hosting. The official Saturday Night Live Twitter page first announced the news:
“Get excited because #MelissaMcCarthy is set to host #SNL Feb. 1st with musical guest, @imaginedragons!! #CantWait”
McCarthy is starring in two new movies this year, including Tammy with SNL vet Dan Aykroyd and St. Vincent De Van Nuys with the legendary Bill Murray. Hopefully one or both of the former SNL cast members will make an appearance on the stage. Please be Murray, please be Murray.
What do you think about the way the new season is shaping up so far? Are you happy with the new cast? What about Sasheer Zamata's performance so far? Let us know your thoughts on how the show is doing, in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
Do not forget to check out the brand new Super Bowl weekend episode special tonight on NBC.
