Judge Harry Connick Jr Joins 2014 ‘American Idol’ Season 13 For Wife NOT Simon Cowell

Harry Connick Jr. has been a breath of fresh air for 2014's Season 13 American Idol. The jazz protégé has brought poise reason to what seemed like the home of chaos, as former judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey vied for the role of alpha male. Few know however that is was his wife and not producer Simon Cowell the led him to make his decision to join the Idol cast.

Harry Connick Jr. has sold more jazz records in his 46 years than any other American in the history of the republic.

So he really doesn't need the money or the abuse that inevitably go along with being a judge on American Idol.

Thankfully years of gentle prodding by his wife Jill Goodacre led the accomplished musician to consider being on the show.

Connick recently told OK! that his wife has been telling him to go on the show since it first aired:

"She's a big fan of the show. We've watched it since the first episode, and she would always say, 'It would be great to see you as a judge,' which made me fell nice...[Jill]was just delighted. We're really excited about this."

Though he was reticent to join the show originally, he has taken to the format like a duck to water.

He told OK! that not only does he find the show easy to manage, he really is looking for America's most talented singer:

"It feels normal for me to be there--it's not rocket science...I know it was 'off' last year, but it has to be about the contestants. We are serious about finding the best person."

Yeah...yeah, just tell us who's going home, and let America tell you which one is best person, buddy.
