Classical music is a very instrument laden craft. The genre can deals in strings: violins, harps andcellos. The piano plays such a vital role in what we know as classical music. Percussions like drums not so much and here is where classical music can possibly fall down. As basic as a drum is the great Viennese like the Strauss Sr. and later on Mozart in their compositions didn't set to go about to utilize this instrument. As time elapsed single ballads played on one instrument waned and a mix of sounds were married giving birth to complex orchestras. This too gave away to smaller bands over time and now today the potential of musical making is the best has it ever been, a young child could possibly create great songs with at least nine different intrumental elements in his basement. Genres like hip hop do not require an elaborate band or even instruments to be reproduced in contrast to the early works of classical music has strong reliance on the abundance personnel and quality of instrument, rap can rely on the drum sometimes to carry the entire composition.
Classical music is not like that. They are classical songs that are very simple like some of Bach's work but some pieces of this genre require precise timing and tuning to be represented faithfully. Hip hop and classical are generations and worlds apart and seem alien to one another one would think but the guile of some modern day artist has been able to tug the forces into one.
The Fugees a 1990s hip hop team together with reggae veteran Bounty Killa came up with an aptly named song called Hip Hopera in 1997. It was set in an opera house and the musicians dressed up in operatic garb although one cannot see classical instruments being played but the track underneath, at its core is very classical with the percussion added to bring hip hop's familiar repetitive bass line to the party.
I don't think the likes of Beethoven would have approved of the composition being a purist but the new generation the Lil Waynes and Jay-Zs of the world grew up appreciating the attempt and try to work in the classical into their own work.
