Swan Lake is set to entertain crowds at the Royal London Opera House in a matter of days. The Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky piece will be on show starting October 6 and will run to November 24. Not well received when Tchaikovsky debuted the play in his native Russian in 1877 but generations on it is one of the favorites of classical lovers.
Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake will be enthralling audiences in Britain while his equally marvelous "The Nutcracker," will hold sway in New York just a few days after, a production done by George Balanchine and the New York City Ballet. Swan Lake done by the Royal Opera House will have Anthony Dowell at the helm the delicate play. A two Act play as many of Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa were, audiences will see the so recognizable concept of good versus evil play out.
Dowell will look to bring "Prince Siegfried," and his flock of swans to life at the opera house. Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House will divide itself into Acts 1 and 2 and will last for about one hour and ten minutes with a short pause between them, followed by an interval of 25 minutes. Act 3 will last for about 35 minutes followed by an interval of 20 minutes. Act 4 will last for about 20 minutes. Taking it to a two hour evening for viewers. To accompany Ivanov and Petipa's original choreography, additional dance routines will be done by Frederick Ashton and David Bintley. The costumes are done by Yolanda Sonnabend for this eye catching Russian play.
