Singer Andy Williams dies at the age of 84. A man who possessed a classical range passed away in his home in Branson, Missouri on Tuesday, September 26. Williams was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011. After his diagnosis the native of Iowa vowed to return to the stage.
Often branded with the late great Frank Sinatra, Williams was a frequent resident to America's top music charts. Williams chart topper "Butterfly," was one of his more famous works. Williams range carried him from the realms of traditional pop to jazz making him one of the most versatile artists of his time.
Williams started his music career in 1953 and had numerous gold albums only bested by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Johnny Mathis. As in 1973 came around Williams had amassed 18 gold albums making him one of the most successful American artist to have ever lived.
More than just a great musician Andy Williams was a man of film as well. A delight in front of the camera Williams was involved in a slew of film projects. Janie in 1944, Kansas City Kitty in 1944 and I'd Rather Be Rich directed by Jack Smight in1964. Multifaceted no project was really out of the singers scope. Williams was a song writer, record producer and even a businessman. Opening up the Moon Rise Theater in his adopted home Missouri. His fame even brought him in the company of former American president John F. Kennedy who he had lend his support in 1968 for the president's campaign.
