Hoorah! The Scotsman Rehires its Classical, Jazz and World CD Critics

A hearty congratulations to our colleague Norman Lebrecht over at his ArtsJournal.com "Slipped Disc" blog, and to protestors such as Tommy Smith. We are overjoyed to read Norman's post reporting a notable success.

After both of these gentlemen helped to orchestrate a protest against the discontinuation of classical, world and jazz CD reviews in The Scotsman, the newspaper has rescinded its decision.

Yes, you read that right. An about-face and a newspaper has decided it was wrong to ignore an important aspect of classical music coverage.

Does this mean that there might be hope yet for other similar (or worse) decisions at other places? Might we see the reversal of the shutting of Bloomberg Muse, its arts division, or the rehiring of reviewers at the Independent on Sunday?

And these, yes, are only two of a larger and ever-growing number of examples we could cite.

Still, let's savor this small and perhaps temporary triumph. Bravo!
