The new Flash series is gearing up for a production. The spin-off to the hit CW show Arrow has started to announce the cast. Law and Order and Rent star, Jessie L. Martin, has been cast as Detective West.
Where DC might be having some trouble finding its footing in the cinematic universe, they are going strong when it comes to the small screen. Arrow is one of the hottest shows on TV and it was recently announced that the company is planning a series based around Gotham, Hourman and Hell Blazer.
However, it's the Arrow spin-off, The Flash, that is perhaps getting the most buzz.
The series recently revealed a major casting announcement. Jessie L. Martin has been cast as the role of Detective West. Martin is best known for his role as Detective Ed Green on NBC’s Law and Order and the part of Tom Collins in both the film and original Broadway version Rent.
West is a name known by Flash fans. Iris West is the hero’s main love interest and Wally West, her nephew, is the second Flash.
Martin will play Iris’ father, Detective William West. It has been reported that he will act as a surrogate father to Barry Allen A.K.A The Flash.
During his appearance on Arrow, Allen revealed that his mother was killed when he was a kid, and that his father was wrongfully imprisoned for the crime. William West is rumored to have grown up in an orphanage and decided to look after Allen, after he lost his parents.
