It is public knowledge that back in 2007, Toxic diva Britney Spears was more fit for a strait jacket than motherhood. What wasn't so clear was the effect the separation from her kids had on her. The star's ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib claims that the saddest thing he ever saw was a suicidal Spears' mourning a Christmas without her children.
Back in 2007, Britney Spears was at the end of a much publicized mental meltdown. She just wanted to cut herself off from the music business and retire to a quiet life in Texas with her children.
The problem with that plan was that she wasn't always allowed to see her children at that time.
Britney Spears ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib admitted in his first in-depth interview about the couple's relationship post-breakup, that Spears was absolutely the picture of despair on Christmas Day 2007.
Spears, who was not allowed to see her children during the holiday, opened all the presents she had bought the children in an effort to lessen the sting, but it didn't work.
Ghalib recounted that instead of catharsis, the opening of gifts brought on unshakable despair (via NY Daily News):
"The sight of the Christmas tree and all the gifts for the kids just broke her, she was trying to run away from hit her head on, and she fell like a sack of potatoes to the floor and couldn't stop sobbing. I put my arms around her and tried to comfort her, but no words were getting through...This was no drug collapse, but a human being grieving to the point where she almost had no concern for her own welfare...She felt that she was being punished being away from her children and told me, 'If I cannot see the boys, I have no reason to live.' It was terrifying to see."
Well...it definitely sounds terrifying.
