This past Thursday, The Vampire Diaries celebrated its landmark 100th episode. Now the cast and crew are reflecting on the hit CW series. Turns out we have True Blood and Twilight to thank. Meanwhile, new rumors are popping up that suggest that the show’s stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are getting back together after their breakup last year. Could one of TV’s hottest couples be dating again in real life?
The residents of Mystic Falls recently celebrated 100 episodes together this past Thursday. Now cast and crew are reflecting on the show and just how it got to be one of the hottest series on TV today.
The Vampire Diaries executive producer, Julie Plec, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about how the show got it’s start:
“It was October 2008, and Kevin and I were having lunch at Morton's in Burbank with a friend of ours, Jen Breslow, an executive at The CW at the time, who had spent 10 or 15 years working for Kevin. We started talking about vampires and Twilight and True Blood, and how it was a bummer that nobody else would want to do any vampire projects because the market was full. Jen said, ‘Actually, that's not true. We've got a book series over at The CW that we've been trying to crack.’ I hadn't heard of The Vampire Diaries, but Kevin had.”
Meanwhile, the show's stars, real life super couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, are reportedly getting back together. The pair have been said to be secretly dating and debating on going public. An unnamed source recently told Celebrity Dirty Laundry about the couple’s secret plans:
"They’re both doing their best to keep it quiet. They’re not sure if they’re going to go back into full dating mode, especially since they’re still on good terms and don’t want to ruin their existing friendship."
