2014 Season 13 'American Idol' Judge Harry Connick Jr. NOT Simon Cowell

Jazz piano icon Harry Connick, Jr., judge of American Idol Season 13, loves his 2014 gig, but he wants you to know he is going to give everyone a fair shake before dismissal. He says he isn’t like Simon Cowell.

Harry Connick, Jr., who has sold more jazz records than any other American, is loving his easy new job and all the people on it.

Now that Harry has a couple of shows under his belt, he is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat, along with the other judges. He told OK! that they are all taking the season seriously:

“It feels normal for me to be there--it's not rocket science...I know it was ‘off’ last year, but it has to be about the contestants. We are serious about finding the best person.”

Though he is still very new to the show, there is one style of judging that he doesn’t want to emulate, that of surely reality matron Simon Cowell.

Harry told OK! that he wouldn't send anyone packing without an explanation why:

“I’m not like Simon [Cowell]. You have to be spontaneous, but specific. You can’t tell people, 'I didn’t like it,' and not why.”

That being said, he loves everyone on the current cast, especially Jennifer Lopez. He told OK! that she is practically the hardest working woman in show biz:

“She is just a kind lady. She’s really sweet. She loves her kids and she’s a really hard worker. It’s no surprise that she’s one of the biggest stars in the world, because she works very, very hard at it.”

She is one fly girl.
