It is official, NBC has confirmed that Parks and Rec has been renewed for a seventh season. However, it is not all good news. In just two weeks, Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones will be leaving the show. Their last episode in the series will air on January 30. Although fans of Jones are in luck. Rashida Jones has a new show and will star in Steve Carell’s new TBS series Tribeca.
Parks and Rec is coming back for a seventh season. NBC’s Robert Greenblatt officially announced the renewal this past weekend at the 2014 Winter TV Critics Association Press Tour:
"Parks and Rec is going to have a seventh season."
This move is not a big surprise considering that Amy Poehler is the networks new golden child.
Poehler not only hosted the Golden Globes alongside her Saturday Night Live pal, Tina Fey, but she was just signed to a three year development deal for the network.
Fey also signed to a similar deal, meaning that Thursday nights are about to bring NBC a whole lot more acclaim, and maybe more Golden Globes of their own.
Where Parks and Rec has been picked back up, it will come back a little slimmer.
Two members of the cast, Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones, are gearing up to leave the show at the end of the month. The final episode for the pair will air on Thursday, January 30.
Rashida Jones will be starring in former Office star Steve Carell’s new series, Tribeca, on TBS.
