Fast & Furious 7 suffered a major derailment when Paul Walker tragically perished in a fatal car accident late last year. Kurt Russell, best known for his role as detective Gabriel "Gabe" Cash in the iconic 1989 action epic Tango & Cash, says that although the final release date has already been set, the script is still undergoing a massive rewrite, in the wake of Walker’s death. His final autopsy indicated the star might have been conscious immediately following the crash.
Universal has already made an official statement that Paul Walker will have a leading role in the Fast franchise film, that is slated to hit theaters next year (via Entertainmentwise):
“Continuing the global exploits in the franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7, which will be released by Universal Pictures on April 10, 2015. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series, and Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel return as producers."
That may be what is scheduled to happen, but it might prove a little easier said than done.
Hollywood legend Kurt Russell, who is reportedly going to play Vin Diesel’s father-type figure in the new film is a new addition to the script. He told Metro that although the writers are making it work, things are not worked out enough to actually start filming the new scenes (via Entertainmentwise):
“They’re having to rewrite, they’re having to do whatever they’re having to do to deal with the situation. It’s catastrophic. It’s the worst thing that could happen to a movie but it’s not as bad as what happened to Paul. So everything is in perspective. He was a terrific guy. And life is full of curveballs. It’s just a situation that they’ll work out and, at that time, I’ll go back to work.”
Is he even really in the movie?
