It is no secret that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a few bugs to work out. The MCU tie-in series has under-performed compared to the epic nature of the movies. Now ABC is admitting that the series has been disappointing. However, the showrunners now plan to save the struggling series, but is it too late? Is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. doomed to be canceled?
Lets face it, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not as good as could it be. Nowhere close in fact.
Record numbers tuned in to see what the Avengers tie-in had in store for the first episode. However, a poor opening performance, followed by stale writing and a snail's pace storytelling, lead many Marvel fans to turn away from the series.
Despite its sad showing, the Disney machine was not ready to give up on the series. Now it seems that a string of guest spots and closer continuity with the movie universe is being utilized to breath new life into the show.
Paul Lee, ABC’s Entertainment President, admitted the show has had its fair share of troubles at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, telling reporters:
“It was obviously disappointing that we started with a very high number and it came down. It took a little bit of time to find our sea legs, but now the show is really doing well…. I think the key to us was really starting to work closely with the studios, and really figure out with our showrunners and all the creative brains, how we could have a show that didn’t have Iron Man in it, but did have an incredible amount of the Marvel universe and an incredible amount of the mythology that went through there. We also took a little bit of time to get the balance between a procedural and an arc. I’m so proud of how they’ve now arced out the last nine episodes. But, that’s something that many shows do, as they go through that.”
Do you think that there is any saving this show, or its it already too late?
