Last week, it was confirmed that the release date for Batman Vs Superman would be delayed until 2016. Reports started to surface that Ben Affleck had suffered an injury that lead to the delay. However, filming is still scheduled for Detroit, the city that has been reported to stand in for Gotham in the new movie.
In what seemed like a very bad move, Warner Brothers announced last week that it was moving the release date for the highly-anticipated Batman Vs Superman until 2016. The official press release gave the reasons for the push back, stating:
“Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to the second quarter of this year. “
However, rumors suggest that Ben Affleck suffered an injury, and that was the real reason for the delay. Although, new reports that filming will continue in Detroit seems to contradict this information.
Major production is still scheduled to take place in Detroit, where it is rumored that the city will stand in for Gotham.
Michelle Grinnell of the Michigan Film Office confirmed that filming will continue in an interview with MLive:
"We are aware of the scheduling changes. Other than timing, this will not impact the plans for filming here in Michigan."
The film will reportedly take up all the available space at the Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac. The movie is also expected to film on location.
The production has a rumored budget of over $131 million for filming in Detroit. That makes it the largest in the cities' history.
What do you think about the delay?
