Gabriel Sherman, who recently authored a new biography about Roger Ailes, has been bashed by a number of respectable critics. In response to the criticism, Sherman revealed that he believes the head of Fox News may have planted misinformation in the very book that Sherman wrote.
At this point, it's just getting sad for Gabriel Sherman.
The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News--and Divided a Country was supposed to be Gabriel's breakout hit.
Unfortunately, Sherman's first novel has been widely panned by critics and readers alike. This is especially true for David Zurawik, columnist at The Baltimore Sun.
David opens the critique by pointing out the inherent flaws in Sherman's work. Of course, the book may still be a good read for some people, as David explains:
"If that kind of simplistic, historically and culturally ignorant explanation of contemporary American media and life works for you, then you will probably like this highly publicized biography from Random House just fine."
Perhaps David Zurawik's entire review is best summarized in one sentence:
"The core problem of The Loudest Voice is the lack of historical knowledge and perspective."
Instead of addressing all of the criticism he received, Sherman decided to appear on HuffPost Live, where, again, he blamed Roger Ailes.
The first time author actually suggested that Roger may have hired "scouts" to spread misinformation about himself:
"I had to be very careful. I just knew that there was a lot of possibility for deception.... I knew that while Ailes wouldn't sit down with me, he was sending out these scouts throughout the process."
