Orange Is the New Black may see a later than expected Season 2 release date. These latest rumors come after Michelle Hurst, who plays Miss Claudette on the award-winning series, awoke from her coma. The actress spent over two weeks in a medically-induced coma, following a terrible car wreck in December.
News that Michelle Hurst was in a near-death car accident first broke from charity site You Caring. The website helps individuals raise money for charity, without charging the good-doers a fee.
On the website, where you can make a donation to contribute towards the $20,000 goal, it tells Michelle's sad story:
"Michelle Hurst was in a bad car accident just before the holidays. She had major injuries so the doctors put her in a medically induced coma to avoid movement while they did multiple surgeries near her spine. She is out of the coma (after 16 days) and has opened her eyes! We can't send flowers yet because she is in ICU. So we have set up a fundraising page. All the money will go through Michelle's sister to help pay for her medical expenses & time off of work."
It's unclear if Michelle was able to film all of her scenes for the second season. While no official release date has been given, some actors have indicated that they are shooting their final scenes for the upcoming season.
Matt McGorry, who plays Officer John Bennett on the show, recently uploaded a photo to Instagram, which may give us some clues. Attached to the photo were the words:
"Wrapping season 2 of #oitnb today! FYI - That doesn't reveal anything relating to any story lines or when season 2 airs"
