Well, it looks like DC just blew it. Just when they were starting to gain some ground in their cinematic universe, they up and moved the release date for Batman Vs Superman from 2015 to 2016. The film is reportedly being delayed so they can make the film better, however, it is also rumored that Ben Affleck suffered a severe injury, causing production to be pushed back for six weeks. The new release date will put the movie up against some stiff competition from Marvel, including X-Men: Apocalypse, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and an unnamed Marvel Studios movie.
DC and Warner Brothers have officially shot themselves in the foot. It turns out that the company dreamed too big when it came to their Man of Steel sequel.
Apparently instead of making one really awesome film based around the simple concept of Batman Vs Superman, Warner Brothers and DC got too far ahead of themselves and decided throw in nearly every other superhero in the Justice League roster.
Now the release date for the film has officially been pushed back from 2015 to 2016. The official press release states the reasons for the delay:
“Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year. The Studio has also set a July 17, 2015, worldwide release date for its as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure. Joe Wright will direct the epic live-action film about the boy who would never grow up, created by J.M. Barrie. The dual date announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.”
However, Batman-News is reporting that Ben Affleck was injured, causing production to be delayed.
Opinion Alert*** Guess that's one of the pitfalls of hiring a 41-year-old man to play Batman. The delay also means that by the time the film is released, Affleck will be pushing 45. Hey, maybe he can take on Marvel’s Ant-Man in an epic battle of the old dudes.
Seriously, the issue isn’t that Affleck will be too old to play Batman. After all, 41 is still young. But how many sequels can we realistically be expecting from a Batman who's pushing 50?
They could've plucked any 25-year-old from the CW to play the iconic character and paid him way less and kept him on contract for 10 years. You don’t need a big name to play Batman, Batman is the big name. Not hating on Affleck, but it just doesn’t add up. ***End Opinion
July is historically one of the best dates for a film to release. With Pan now taking its place, the new release date for Batman Vs Superman puts the new movie up against three weeks of Marvel films.
What do you think about the delay? Will it kill DC’s shared movieverse for good?
