Ashlee Simpson has forgotten all about her disastrous marriage to Pete Wentz and is ready to tie the knot a second time. Diana Ross’ son Evan proffered an impressive diamond ring, to which the pop star could not say, no.
Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross, both of whom grew up in a family member's music industry shadow, have known each other a long time. A friend of the couple told Life and Style that it was inevitable they got engaged:
“They’ve been friends for years. Evan feels like he’s known her forever, and he loves her son.”
Evan sure did show it, taking weeks to design the five-carat ring, which features 140 white diamonds accented by rubies in platinum and gold settings.
Famed L.A. jeweler Neil Lane told People that Evan wasn’t fooling around (via Dialy Mail):
“He took it very seriously and it was a wonderfully intense process. Evan was really, really sweet and he was looking for something beautiful, a unique ring that said everything: love, romance, beauty, character. He didn’t want anything traditional.”
Ross wasn’t taking any chance. After wowing Simpson into compliance, he immediately announced his triumph via Twitter, so there would at least be a public record, “The love of my life said yes!”
Ashlee Simpson, apparently not wanting to break it off until they got back to the continental U.S., followed up his tweet with a post of her own. Simpson put up a photo of the couple embracing with the caption, “My baby love and I are ENGAGED!!! Hallelujah Hawaii!!!"
