The late Marvin Hamlisch will be paid tribute this month by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Maestro Jack Everly in Maryland.
Jack Everly will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, January 23 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, as well as on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25.
On Sunday, January 26 at 3 p.m., the party moves to Baltimore proper's Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The performance will also feature lead singer Marissa McGowan.
This wouldn't be the first time we hear about the didactic composer being publicly fêted. Vocal legend Barbara Streisand paid tribute at the 2013 Academy Awards with her performance of "The Way We Were" and in the PBS documentary What He Did for Love.
And that is to no surprise, for the esteemed former Pops conductor paved the way as one of 11 other artists to E.G.O.T.--that is, to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. His status is buttressed by his contributions to the film, television, theater and music industries.
The BSO will perform the best of the Hamlisch canon, including works such as "They're Playing Our Song," "The Way We Were" and "What I Did for Love" from A Chorus Line.
Until Maryland, here's the New York Philharmonic performing the overture to A Chorus Line.
