39-year-old Ryan Phillippe is probably still best known for his role in Cruel Intentions, where he met ex-wife Reese Witherspoon in 1999. These days he is recognized more for his very public love life, than any acting jobs. So, it is a little funny that the known selfie enthusiast would criticize the Instagram culture, as he and new girlfriend Paulina Slagter attempt to settle down in the limelight.
Ryan Phillippe has continued to be marginalized, as his career goes by decade after decade in a virtual free fall.
His name is mentioned more in relation to the women in his personal life, than in connection to any Hollywood project, as of late.
That is why it is a little ironic that someone who owes their current fame entirely to good looks would take a pot shot at the hollowness that is social media culture via social media, even if in jest.
Ryan Phillippe usually reserves his Twitter feed for life altering pearls of wisdom (via Just Jared):
“Even though I’m not THAT old, putting on a leather jacket makes me feel like Morgan Freeman trying to look young.”
Or “These Illuminati meetings keep running longer & longer…smh”
Phillippe took time to fire off a gem of zeitgeist analysis, when he tweeted this revelatory nugget of knowledge (via Just Jared):
“If you judged the world based on only Instagram pictures you would think world peace had been achieved…Instagram kinda makes us all superficial bimbos. Or fake models… (I still like it)”
Don’t be afraid. If you think that Philippe is evolving out of the person you know and love, don’t fret. He followed up his Instagram analysis later that same day with an even for insightful musing:
“Funny to watch people floss.”
There you go buddy...there you go.
