Well, it is official. There will be two Ant-Men in the upcoming Marvel Phase Three film, Ant-Man. Paul Rudd will be joined by legendary actor Michael Douglas. With Douglas obviously playing a much older version of Hank Pym, that leaves fans wondering what will become of Pym’s love interest, The Wasp. Rumor has it that Parks and Rec star Rashida Jones is still up for the role.
Fans thought they knew who Ant-Man was, when it was announced that Paul Rudd had been cast in the film. However, shortly after, the news was revealed that multiple Ant-Men would be in the film.
Now it has been learned that Paul Rudd will actually be playing the second Ant-Man, Scott Lang. Michael Douglas has accepted the role as Hank Pym, the first Ant-Man.
Marvel's President of Production and V.P. of Boasting, Kevin Feige, released a statement to the press about Douglas casting:
“With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."
Earlier in the week, Douglas spoke with Reuters about his plans for the role:
"I've been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long," "The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (his son) will love it. He'll have a picture he can see."
Now the real question is where would Hank Pym be without a wife to beat. That is right, in some comic versions, Hank Pym is the Chris Brown of the Marvel world.
With Pym being so much older, it makes many wonder if his wife, Janet Van Dyne, A.K.A The Wasp, will make an appearance.
In an earlier interview, Edgar Wright mentioned that the film would have flashbacks to Pym’s time as Ant-Man. If Marvel keeps with this theme, we may see a younger version of Wasp in action.
Parks and Rec star Rashida Jones has been rumored to play the part, however, it appears now that we might not be seeing her interact with Paul Rudd.
