Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally starting to expand to the larger MCU. The show has been highly criticized for not living up to the cinematic universe that it stems from. Now the struggling series is getting a brand new character. Big Love veteran Bill Paxton will be joining the cast as Agent John Garrett. The newest episode of the show also had a easter egg that ties into Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, hinting that a crossover episode is on its way.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is about to get a little help, when comic book agent John Garrett joins the cast. Garrett, a level 7 agent-turned-cyborg, will join the cast this winter for a multi-episode run. Bill Paxton has been cast to play the character.
Writer and executive producer Jed Whedon recently spoke to MTV about the new character:
"We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger. When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn't like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He's going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two."
Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen also added,"He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets.”
Meanwhile, last night's episode had a easter egg tie-in to Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. The name Bucky Barnes, A.K.A, The Winter Soldier, was read off a list of fallen S.H.I.E.L.D members on The Wall of Valor. Which was a little odd considering he “died” before S.H.I.E.L.D. was formed. Even odder that his name was read as Bucky when it is actually James.
Please Bill Paxton, save this show!
