Sam and Cat is officially jumping the shark...or tuna. The hit Nickelodeon series is about to air a very special hour-long reunion episode called “#The Killer Tuna Jump.” The ep will feature iCarly’s Freddie (Nathan Kress) and Victorious' Jade (Liz Gillies) and Robbie (Matt Bennett). However, the show is facing off against some pretty persistent rumors that it has been canceled.
Sam and Cat is one of the hottest new shows on Nickelodeon today. The smash hit spin-off of iCarly and Victorious, stars Jennette McCurdy as Sam and Ariana Grande as Cat.
Now the show is planning to reunite the starlets with a few of their former co-stars. iCarly’s Freddie Benson, (Nathan Kress) and Victorious’ Jade and Robbie, (Liz Gillies & Matt Bennett).
The episode's official plot summary, as reported by J14, reads:
“When Sam meets Cat's friend Jade from Hollywood Arts, Sam and Jade become friends, leaving Cat feeling a little left out. Taking some questionable advice from Nona, Cat decides to retaliate by ‘stealing’ a friend of Sam's--and it's Freddie Benson! As Cat tries to get cozy with Freddie, Sam finds out and goes after a friend of Cat's--Robbie Shapiro! The jealousy comes to a crashing climax at Fisherman's Wharf, where Dice has hired Sam to jump her motorcycle over a tank full of vicious man-biting tuna.”
However, the new promo for the episode seems to imply that Freddie and Jade come back because of the jump--Jade to see it and Freddie to stop it.
"#The Killer Tuna Jump" is a reference to the moment in Happy Days when the Fonzie jumped a shark on a jet ski. That event marked the moment when Happy Days started going downhill. However, Sam and Cat is only little more than half way through with it’s premiere season. Although it is worth noting that the one season of 40 episodes is almost as long as full runs of other shows that target the same demographic.
Rumor has it that Ariana Grande may want to end the show to focus on her music career. Nickutopia, recently cited her changing hair style as sign that she has moved on from the character.
The hour-long special of Sam and Cat airs this Saturday, January 18 on Nickelodeon.
