Well, Marvel has big things planned for Phase Three of its Cinematic Universe. With only three films left in Phase 2, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, Marvel is announcing a new string of heroes to take over post Avengers. First Ant-Man was announced, and then The Black Panther was mentioned. Now the latest rumor involves the longawaited, Dr. Strange. Johnny Depp has been slated to play the good doctor in the upcoming movie.
Marvel is focusing a lot of attention on its next phase. Phase Three will be a rebuilding Phase, considering Phase Two only has one film that is not a sequel.
Late last year, Kevin Feige, Marvels President of Production and Chief Executive Motormouth, spoke to BlackTree TV about making a Black Panther movie:
“In terms of Black Panther, it’s absolutely in development, and when you have something as rich as Wakanda and [Black Panther's] backstory--and clearly, Vibranium’s been introduced in the universe already--I don’t know when it will be exactly but certainly we have plans to bring him to life someday.”
Now that we know Black Panther is in development, attention is being turned to the long rumored Dr. Strange. Strange has been up on the Marvel blackboard for a while now.
Keeping with Marvel’s obsession with building a roster of 50-year-old and up heroes, the studio is reportedly looking at Johnny Depp to play the role of the good doctor in the new movie.
Latino Review broke the rumor, reporting:
“A well-connected source informed me tonight that Johnny Depp has taken a meeting with Marvel to discuss taking on the role of Dr. Strange.”
