Taylor Swift has had her name in the news quite a bit since the philanthropist started donating money all over her adopted home town of Nashville. But, the celebrity giver isn’t all that she has been made out to be, according to neighbors of her Rhode Island beach mansion.
The change Swift is making to the coastline has locals there seeing red.
Swift has been lauded country-wide as an example of celebrity charitability.
She has recently donated everything from her time, to considerable amounts of wealth.
She not only gives to organizations in her home town, like the Nashville Symphony and the city library, but she also grants kids their last wishes, through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The mayor of Nashville Karl Dean even took the time to praise the local star after being named Tennessean of the Year (via Billboard):
"She’s one of the most dynamic and popular musical performers in the world, and she's perceived as having universal appeal across categories. She transcends genres, and that's a great thing for the city."
That's all well and good for them, says locals of the other town in which she has a home Westerly, RI, but what about them?
The star is proposing to reconstruct a sea wall outside her home that washed away years ago. The town council has already approved the measure, but some community residents are in an uproar.
They believe that the new construction will obscure a small public access way to the beach.
She may be known as a philanthropist elsewhere, but in Westerly she is known as a taker according to a source in the towns local paper (via Ok! Magazine):
“What we have...here is a government approved taking of public property by a wealthy summer resident, who just happens to be Taylor Swift. What can we do about it? Apparently, nothing.”
What about it Tay Tay? What you going to give theses people?
