Former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher was rushed to a French clinic after suffering a near fatal skiing accident last week. The driver is still in a medical induced coma. The local prosecutor’s office in Albertville is investigating the details of the accident. They have announced that a press conference is to be held tomorrow regarding the incident.
Michael Schumacher is considered by all to be one of the best race car drivers in the history of the sport. So, it is no wonder that the world waits with breath bated to hear news of some sort of change in his condition, whether good or bad.
Sadly, there is no news. And in this case, no news isn’t necessarily good news.
The driver's manager noted that the driver’s condition has stabilized, which could be viewed by some as a type of improvement. She has asked that people refer to the official statement released by Centre Hospitalier Universitaire and not speculate independently on Schumacher’s condition.
Their statement hasn’t been updated since Saturday (via DW.de):
“The clinical state of Michael Schumacher is stable as he's under permanent care and treatment. However, the medical team in charge stresses that it continues to assess his situation as critical."
Meanwhile, the Albertville prosecutor's office is looking into what caused the accident and whether it could have been prevented. According to DW.de, the press conference to be held on Wednesday will focus on the conditions on the accident and not necessarily the speed:
“Their investigation, which is focusing on how fast the former driver was going when the accident occurred. They are also said to be looking into whether the ski run was properly marked and whether the safety releases on his skis worked properly.”
Maybe they should wait until his condition changes, but then you couldn’t make the tragedy about you.
