North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un Uncle Dog Execution Fake; Dennis Rodman Returns

North Korea is well known for its eccentric leaders. So some were disappointed when their new leader Kim Jong Un didn’t seem half as deranged as his dad or granddad. It was quite exciting when word went out that little Kim's dear old uncle had been fed to hungry dogs as a means of his state sponsored execution. Well, don’t perk up just yet. It turns out that was a fake report written as political satire. Dennis Rodman, as it turns out, is still sadly very real.

North Korea has yet to announce the means by which the recent execution of the supreme leader’s uncle for treason occured and probably never will. That left a vacuum that was too easily filled.

The story that has been circulating throughout Europe and the West was apparently based on a screen shot of a tweet, first published in the Hong Kong-based newspaper Wen Wei Po.

The newspaper picked up the story from a Twitter account that is known for its political satire. The report was picked up by the West because people were confused about the newspaper's political allegiances, as Reuters explains:

Wen Wei Po, although independent, is viewed as being pro-Beijing. Its report was in turn picked up 12 days later by the Singapore-based Straits Times and then by a wide range of U.S. and European media from print to television.”

Let us hope this doesn’t ruin the birthday bash that Dennis Rodman has been planning for his buddy Marshal Kim.

Rodman is there to help organize a series of basketball games to entertain the leader for his Jan 8 birthday. Though he told the New York Times, that in his mind there was more to it than that:

"Just think, it's up to Dennis Rodman to break ground with North Korea. I'm the only one in the world who will go talk to this guy and try and find some common ground with these people. I'm hoping that gap between America and North Korea can close. Those guys love a lot about America. They love it. That's why I go over there.”

Being eaten by dogs is starting not to sound that bad.
