Well, 2014 is almost here and that means that we are one year closer to Marvel’s Phase Three plans. The studio has already announced that Anchorman 2’s Paul Rudd has been cast as Ant-Man, the first planned Phase Three film. It has also been reported that The Black Panther is officially in development.
Marvel is only two movies deep into its Phase Two film project and fans are already buzzing about the next step in the franchise. Phase Three is still a year and a half away from hitting theaters. The phase will be kicked off with 2015’s Ant-Man. Recently, it was announced that Anchorman 2 star Paul Rudd will be playing the titular character. Kevin Feige, Marvel’s President of Production and Chief Non-Shutter Upper, announced after months of rumors in a press release:
“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studio's film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."
From Sex Panther to Black Panther, Marvel is also planning another Avenger to the Phase Three roster. Feige, recently spoke to BlackTree TV about making a Black Panther movie:
“In terms of Black Panther, it’s absolutely in development, and when you have something as rich as Wakanda and [Black Panther's] backstory--and clearly, Vibranium’s been introduced in the universe already--I don’t know when it will be exactly but certainly we have plans to bring him to life someday.”
